“When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.”
– John 12:9-11
In the previous chapter, the apostle John records the account of a man named Lazarus’s death. The account claims that a man named Jesus raised Lazarus back to life. And because of Lazarus’ living, breathing, walking around testimony, many put their trust and belief in Jesus.
The religious leaders weren’t having it. They feared losing control over the people; among other things. They needed a solution.
What did they come up with?
Oh, you know. Death.
The chief priests – the most religious, powerful, esteemed, knowledgable men of the culture – could not come up with a better solution than death to stop Lazarus’ testimony; even though Jesus already proved that death has no power over him.
So the only alternative to surrendering to the power and life and testimony of Jesus Christ……
death.
And the only thing this world can offer me…..
death.
Which, Jesus already defeated.
Howboutdah.
